Furnace Repair – Filters

Dirty Or No Filters

Today we are going to take a look at a furnace repair.  What happens to your furnace and a/c coil when you do not replace filters on a regular basis.  This furnace repair is from Meridian Idaho where the home owner had not had filters for 2 years.  The furnace repair call was for high gas bills and low air flow.  The furnace was running all day nonstop and only getting the home to about 64 degrees.  Upon arriving at the home we discovered that the fan motor, blower wheel, and indoor coil were clogged with “yuck”.  The air flow was so poor that the furnace was kicking out on overload every 1 to 2 minutes.

The Furnace Repair

The solution to this furnace repair was to disassemble the entire unit and clean it from top to bottom.  This required removing the Freon from the unit and cleaning the coil as well.  The reason for the high gas bills and low air flow was mostly due to the indoor coil being clogged solid with dirt.  When this coil is clogged the air from the blower cannot get through the coil and into the home.  This repair was rather expensive due to the amount of labor and Freon recovery involved.  When we were finished as you can see from the video below, the coil and furnace were clean.  The furnace ran without issues and the air flow was increased about 10 fold.  This furnace repair could have been avoided by simply installing a good quality filter and replacing it every 6 months.

Low Cost – Big Savings

Filters are the cheapest and easiest way to maintain a good working heating and air conditioning system. They can also prevent an expensive furnace repair.  Purchase a good quality pleated filter in the price range of $6-$12 and replace them every 3 to 6 months.  For other money saving tips be sure to visit our other blogs and remember Value Heating Inc. for your next repair or cleaning.
