Boise Idaho ac repair-indoor coils

Today’s Boise Idaho ac repair will talk about indoor ac coils, the difference between r-22 and r-410.  The indoor ac coils in Boise usually sit under your furnace and are in their own case.  The two most common forms of Freon used in today’s ac units are r-22 and r-410a.  It is important to know that r-22 is no longer used for new manufactured ac units in the US.  This is do to the clean air act and phasing out of ozone depleting gases.  The main two differences between the old r-22 coils and the new coils are.  R-410a runs higher pressures so the coils are made to withstand more pressure than the old coils.  Second the new coils are usually taller in size than the old coils to allow for better efficiency.

Boise Idaho AC Repair

An r-410a coil can be used for an r-22 system but not the other way around.  This is due to the pressures of r-410a versus the old r-22 coil pressures.  On this Boise Idaho ac repair, the indoor coil was leaking Freon.  The homeowners had a newer a/c unit install about 8 years ago that uses r-22 Freon.  We informed her that she could still use the r-22 ac unit with the new coil.  Further more when the ac unit did go bad, the new coils we install would work with a r-410a system.  Unfortunately in this Boise Idaho ac repair her coil was only 12″ tall and they no loner make a coil of that height, so what to do now.

Making Adjustments

In a case like this we need to remove the furnace and duct work above to get to the old coil box and remove it.  Then install the new coil in its new box (4″ taller), now we reinstall her old furnace and then have to rebuild her duct work above to be 4″ taller than before.  This also causes minor changes in the flue, gas piping and electrical do to the difference in height.  When we were done everything looked great and worked well and the homeowner was happy to have ac again.
