If your ac unit does need a compressor here are some things you need to know.  Make sure the compressor is the correct size.  Just because your unit is a 4 ton does not mean your compressor is a 4 ton.  Make sure they only use NEW Freon not the old stuff that came out.  Always install a liquid line filter drier in the system to help clean anything left behind.  Every system should be evacuated and leak checked before Freon is put in.  If your compressor was shorted or grounded it is always a good idea to add acid blocker.   This will keep the residual acid in the system from killing your new compressor.  Also always clean and check the metering device before reassembling the system.
