Ac Repair

AC RepairAC Repair – Unit replacement

In some cases an ac repair may not be cost effective do to the age or condition of the unit.  In those cases a replacement may be a better option.  When you have an ac repair that is going to cost over 25% of the cost of replacement.  You are many times better off to buy a new one.  There are a lot of advantages to getting a new a/c and heating system.  With a new system comes a warranty, lower operating cost (meaning lower utility bills).  As well as new style of Freon (which is lower in cost), and quieter, cleaner operations.

In some cases rebates from the power company, gas company and even the government make the cost even lower.  If your ac repair has you considering a new unit keep these tips in mind.  Look for a quality brand that is well known.  Check consumer reports about the best brands.  Consider the annual operation cost (SEER rating) of the new equipment as well as the warranty.  Remember the best brands do not always have the best warranty so do not be fooled.  A short warranty you never have to use is much better than a long warranty you have to use all the time!

AC Repair – Repairing your unit

In many ac repair cases however, the best action is to repair what you have.  Just because your furnace or ac is 15 years old does not mean it needs to be replaced.  The average life of an a/c or furnace in Boise is about 20 years.  In many cases your furnace is going to be the same 80% rating as the new one you have installed.  So ask a lot of questions before you let someone talk you into a new system.  In many ac repair cases we have seen sales people talk home owners into a new unit that is worse than the old unit they had.  So if you have an ac repair and are considering replacing your system, do your homework, and take your time.

Check prices and brands so that you can make an informed decision.  Better to spend a few days in the heat than live with a bad a/c unit for the next 20 years.  If you have any questions we are always glad to help over the phone.
